Dearest followers, friends and overlords
our campaign, having stalled some weeks as real-life commitments intervened, returned this week with two turns played at once. The campaign's first financial turn took place, whereby the Scots will have received reinforcements, while the other three players issued their first batch of reinforcements due in Turn 21.
MAIN EVENTS
The Welsh/Us alliance moved strongly south cutting off the English infantry base located in the SE peninsula, thus creating a pocket of resistance. Furthermore they moved out of US bases located in both Northern Ireland and the Midlands mainland while publicly supporting the Irish crisis. Will the NME retaliate? Have they the resources, with Belfast burning? Well, only the next turns will shed light on that!
The English found themselves deprived of both the SE infantry based and their Northernmost vehicle base which NME forces moved into in force.
The Scots report movement to their north. They have however remained mostly silent thus far as the English government has, as well. The former initiated a call to arms for its citizenry to form a Home Guard, while the latter announced an English language knowledge test to be applied to people seeking to enter the country.
The NME government was purged of its moderate faction in a violent coup as police and civilian forces pull out of Belfast and the crisis worsens, causing NATO to threaten intervention.
We also tried a practice game which due to commitments fizzled a bit. The Scottish general, Dave the Bruce, was recalled to real life work on Saturday morning thus ending his leadership on Friday night. Cpl A. then lead the Scot/French forces into Saturday morning, giving the US a good run for their money. Alas as the NME made it onto the table, according to the US/NME allied plan of inflicting a flanking attack on the opponents, a status report request came through over the net
NME GHQ: "Commander, stat rep"
NME HQ: "Yes, sir. Proceeding according to plan. We have reached AOR and destroyed two Scottish units. US reports strong enemy across front. They require our immediate support in strength. Move to engage?"
NME GHQ: "Negative. US forces moved from bases in Northern Ireland and Midlands. They have declared war on us. Deny support and withdraw from the field immediately! Let the French and Scotsmen have them."
NME HQ: "Certainly, Sir. We are withdrawing from the field. HQ out."
And thus we saw the game rules in action. Fast, detailed and well played, written by Cpl A. they proved the following
- Armor is not impervious to attack. A penetrating hit is extremely damaging and will often destroy a unit in a shot.
- Infantry is very hard to spot.
- Mortars are rather inaccurate.
- We saw no aircraft or artillery in action, unfortunately. Thus rules for these will be revealed when table engagements call for them.
Until next time, therefore, may the dice gods smile upon you!
S.
