Russian Onslaught

Well then....I've read of guys being stomped by their younger offspring...but today I copped it on the chin by a VOMEEEN..
Yes...that fiendish strategist of a breed of human led the Soviets to bring the Werhmacht to breakpoint in 3 swift rounds. And no, I didn't particularly try to make things any easier for her. Does that say something for my tactical skill? Doubtfully, it was just one of those games you lose and cop it sweet.
It was fair, it was square, it was very very swift. Don't think I've seen that many command rolls passed in a sequence in some time, if ever!
The forces comprised

GERMAN CO 10
3x Heer
1x MG42
1x 81mm
3x 251/1
2x BMW sidecar
2x Stug III Kurz

German panzer detachment HQ 9
3x Pz IV Kurz

German stug detachment HQ 9
4x StuG III Lang

2k points
Breakpoint 7

Red Army CO 9
3x T34/76

Red Army HQ 8
3x T34/76

Red Army HQ 7
6x Regulars
2x Maxim
1x 82mm

Red Army HQ 7
6x Regulars
2x Maxim
1x 82mm

2k points
Breakpoint 11

The big white die in the middle's used to indicate the turn....dagnabbit!

The game opened with the Germans taking the hill in the centre of the board with two Stug III Lang platoons. In the center the infantry command advanced locating its mortar in safe rearguard and the left was, presumably, protected by the Pz IV detachment.
They positioned themselves to opportunity fire their adversaries but then failed their command rolls (inc a blunder) and the left flank of th Red Army came on in force. Keeping out of range of the Pz IVs they proceeded to wreak the first batch of damage.
The Germans caused some havok themselves to the infantry coming on the other end with the StuG III Langs but couldn't see anything else and lay in wait to ambush the Red Army T34s in the center with opportunity fire.
However, the T34s through some great manuever (hiding behind cover and me failing my opportunity fire, coupled with an impressive streak of command rolls) and dice rolling overcame the ambush and proceeded to storm the hill with shells supported by mortar fire from both infantry detachments
Finally, the T34s on the right flank of the Red Army recovered from their suppression to finish off a second Pz IV (which duly failed its command roll, at a pinch...)
Lastly, a view of the field of carnage from the hill held firmly by the Russians on the far left Soviet flank, as they giggle menacingly in trepidation of the notorious treatment the NKVD will reserve the surviving invaders when they lay their claws upon them.
Where are the Americans when a hard fighting German soldier wants to surrender, huh?!?

Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed playing and posting.
Til next time
Be safe and may the dice smile at you (at least more than they did me this game!)
S.
